wird zu einem intensiven Kammerspiel<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Es gibt eine Reihe von Musicals, bei denen die Fassungsvielfalt kaum zu \u00fcberblicken ist. Eines davon ist \u201eMartin Guerre\u201c aus der Feder von Alain Boublil und Claude-Michel Sch\u00f6nberg. 1996 in London uraufgef\u00fchrt, begannen die \u201eLes Mis\u00e9rables\u201c-Autoren bereits unmittelbar nach der Premiere mit erheblichen Umarbeitungen, die bis heute andauern. Im Zentrum der Handlung steht der historisch verb\u00fcrgte Fall des Hochstaplers Arnaud du Tilh, der sich im Frankreich des 16. Jahrhunderts als der titelgebende Martin Guerre ausgibt.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Martin hatte sein Dorf Artigat und seine junge Ehefrau Bertrande verlassen, um im Krieg zu k\u00e4mpfen \u2013 und dem gesellschaftlichen Druck, ein vorbestimmtes Leben zu f\u00fchren, zu entfliehen. Sieben Jahre sp\u00e4ter kehrt Arnaud, den Martin im Krieg kennengelernt hatte, an dessen Stelle nach Artigat zur\u00fcck. Dort wird er von den Dorfbewohnern und Bertrande f\u00fcr den verschollenen Martin gehalten. Doch die anf\u00e4ngliche Euphorie \u00fcber seine R\u00fcckkehr schl\u00e4gt bald in Misstrauen um, bis dem vermeintlichen Martin schlie\u00dflich als Hochstapler der Prozess gemacht wird.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Boublil und Sch\u00f6nberg schufen aus dieser faszinierenden Geschichte, die in alten Gerichtsakten \u00fcberliefert ist, ein durchkomponiertes Musical, das in seiner Erstfassung vor allem durch seinen opernnahen sinfonischen Klang \u00fcberzeugte. Regisseur Matthew Warchus hat im Londoner Old Vic nun eine neue, von den Autoren (in Zusammenarbeit mit Annabel Mutale Reed und Paul Hodge) auf 90 Minuten gek\u00fcrzte Version des Musicals inszeniert. Leider fehlen zahlreiche musikalische H\u00f6hepunkte der urspr\u00fcnglichen Fassung, daf\u00fcr besitzt das St\u00fcck nun eine dramaturgische Geschlossenheit, die fr\u00fchere Versionen vermissen die als Jugendliche wegen ihrer L\u00e4ndereien mit Martin verheiratet wird. Liv Andrusier verk\u00f6rpert sie als selbstbewusste und willensstarke Frau, wodurch Bertrande klar zur Sympathietr\u00e4gerin des St\u00fccks wird. Nicht nur durch ihr intensives Schauspiel, sondern auch in ihren musikalischen Nummern wei\u00df Andrusier zu \u00fcberzeugen \u2013 etwa im neuen, leidenschaftlichen Song \u201eSomeday\u201c. Hier gelingt ihr eine hervorragende Balance zwischen stimmlicher Kraft und emotionaler Intensit\u00e4t.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Mit der gr\u00f6\u00dferen Fokussierung auf Bertrande wird Martin selbst allerdings zu einer Randfigur, obwohl er mit dem Titelsong eine der markantesten Nummern der Show singen darf. Shane O\u2019Riordan gibt den vermeintlichen Heimkehrer ebenso eindringlich wie verletzlich und bildet damit ein gutes Gegengewicht zu Andrusier. Aus dem restlichen Ensemble stechen vor allem Barney Wilkinson, der Martins Gegenspieler Guillaume mit d\u00e4monischer Unerbittlichkeit verk\u00f6rpert, sowie Colin Ryan als einf\u00e4ltig-lebensfroher Benoit hervor.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Matthew Warchus\u2019 d\u00fcstere, atmosph\u00e4risch dichte Inszenierung entwickelt eine archaische Kraft, die die historische Geschichte eindrucksvoll umsetzt. Zu Beginn etwa betritt das Ensemble in schwarzen Kutten in einer kult\u00e4hnlichen Prozession die Arenab\u00fchne, die mit wenigen B\u00fchnenelementen (Ausstattung: Rob Howell), daf\u00fcr mit stimmungsvollem Lichtdesign (Hugh Vanstone, Luca Panetta und Toby Ison) aufwartet. Trotz des hohen Tempos, zu dem auch Lizzi Gees mystisch-rituelle Choreografie beitr\u00e4gt, gelingt es Warchus, die epische Geschichte zu einem nervenaufreibenden Familiendrama zu verdichten.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Leider ist die Musik auf ein Kammerformat reduziert worden. Tom Currans Orchestrierung kommt mit nur sechs Musikern aus \u2013 eine zu kleine Besetzung f\u00fcr die epische Partitur. Dank der herausragenden Darsteller aber entfaltet die Produktion trotz dieser musikalischen Einbu\u00dfen eine emotionale Wucht, der man sich kaum entziehen kann.
